What is a Stent?

As previously discussed it is bad when arteries get blocked up and as we have discussed in the leaflet Heart Bypasses are a lengthy ad risk procedure which is why for arteries which are not that badly blocked up. Doctors use stents. Stents a flexible mesh which push down the fatty deposits allowing for blood to flow through. They are inserted using a long wire called a Cather. They are inserted compressed with a balloon on the end of the Cather. When the stent has reached the fatty deposits the balloon is inflated then dragged behind which completes the procedure. Below is a image from ICBA which demonstrates the procedure.
